Food of the Eighties, Products Beginning with W
I've been asked a couple of times for information about what food was
specific to the 80s, so I've started a small list which I'm sure will grow
pretty rapidly. Cereals of the 80s have their own page.
This list contains items that were around before and after the 80s, I'm looking for
stuff that was still popular in the 80s. So this list will contain items
that were around in the 70s, and maybe earlier if they were still popular.
Please note! Zima and clear colas were a 90s fad, not an 80s fad! I know it might
seem like a long time ago, but that's only because they tasted so awful and were marketed so heavily.
(Somehow, Zima still persists, though no one has determined why).

WWF Ice Cream Bar
Chocolate cookie on one side, shortbread cookie on the other, ice cream in the middle with a picture of a WWF superstar on the shortbread side. Very 80's!!
Wacky Wafers
Candy shaped like a silver dollar. With flavors like green apple, banana, cherry, blue raspberry. It is made by Willy Wonka.
Wacky Wash
Had the consistency of poprocks, but tasted like wacky wafers and didnt fizzle, made by Wonka.
Waffle-O-Bills cereal
The box had different old west cartoon scenes on it. It tasted kind of like maple waffles. Very tasty! Tasted better than the Waffle Crisp that is out now.
Walaby Squash Soda
I think this drink came out during the Australian craze of the mid-80's. I remember it tasted like flat Mountain Dew and the commercial jingle was really catchy. "Drink me Walaby Squash mate, drink me Walaby Squash"!!!
Wallaroo
It was supposed be be an Australian drink, I cant remember if it was carbonated or not, but the comercial had a catchy tune "whats a wallaroo, whats a wallaroo..."
Wax Bottles
We used to get these wax bottles that resembled small glass Coke bottles. You'd bite the top off and drink the fruity liquid inside.
Wax Lips
Wax lips were pretty much that- wax lips. They were big and red and you could chew on them. They were sugary, and sweet.
Weight Watchers Apple Snacks
Small packages of Dried Apples. They were huge in the mid-80's and kids used to bring them to school as a snack.
Weiner Wraps
These were basically flat crescent roll dough squares made to fit the size of a whole hot dog. They were discontinued in the early 80's.
Welch's Sodas
The flavors were Grape and Strawberry
Wendy's Apple Dumpling
A dessert from Wendy's... 1/2 apple wrapped in crust w/ spice flavored syrup on top. Excellent with a chocolate frosty.
Wendy's hamburgers
Who can forget those old ladies looking at their burger inside the bun the size of a quarter and one of the ladies saying "wheres the beef?"
Wham Bars
Rock hard, long, thin chewy pink sweet
Whatchamacallit
The chocolate/peanutbutter crisp candy bar that had the commercials where no one could figure out what the name of the candy was (except the person holding the candy bar)
Wheatsworth crackers
These were wheat crackers similar to saltines. They were brown and yucky tasting. They came in a box half the size of regular saltines.
Whispa Candy Bar
This was a chocolate bar with a whipped chocolate center that melted in your mouth.
Whistle Pops
Lollipop shaped like a whistle. It had a red plastic stick in the end you could move up and down while you blew into the other end to produce a slide whistle effect. And when you were done whistling on it, you could eat it!
White Mountain Cooler
White Mountain Coolers started out with one flavor which was lemon lime (like mountain dew with alcohol).
White corn tacos from Taco Bell
Taco Bell had their original Taco's except they had white corn shells. Along with the 59, 79, 99 TV ads
Whoppers
little chocolate balls that came in packs of 5 or 6. they had a biscuit center that seems to liquify in your mouth. kinda yucky but popular with kids all over. still avaiable today
WigWag Bar
It was chocolate covered caramel in the shape of a braid!
Wildwood Cola
This crappy line of soft drinks was the breakfast of champions when I was young. The flavors included: Cola, Diet Cola, Rootbeer, Grape, Orange, Cherry, & Lemon Lime. Awful, but it sure did seem like the drink of the gods all of those late night weekends playing Nintendo!
Wine Coolers
...in 2 liter plastic bottles!
Wink
Pretty tart-tasting citrus soda.
Winner
Chocolate bar, yellow wrapper, tasted very like a Catch bar, only nicer, and a few pence cheaper. A Catch bar was 22p and a Winner was only 18p, and you know what a difference that made when you were a kid. I've no idea who made it. (Prices are irish pence, from the good old days before the euro)
Wise Potato Chips
I'm not completly sure if these were made after the 80s or not, but I was born in '82 and I remember these from when I was young. They were in a blue or green bag that had an owl on it.
Wizz Fizz
White fizzy sherbet in little individual packets with small shovel shaped spoons to eat with, from australia
Wrapples
Kraft made a carmel wrap that you put around apples and put them in the oven and bake. I would love to see that commercial again. It had three little kids trick or treating and this lady gives them all wrapples. The music in the commercial so funny to me. It sounded like how an alien would sound if one sang.
