Food of the Eighties, Products Beginning with O
I've been asked a couple of times for information about what food was
specific to the 80s, so I've started a small list which I'm sure will grow
pretty rapidly. Cereals of the 80s have their own page.
This list contains items that were around before and after the 80s, I'm looking for
stuff that was still popular in the 80s. So this list will contain items
that were around in the 70s, and maybe earlier if they were still popular.
Please note! Zima and clear colas were a 90s fad, not an 80s fad! I know it might
seem like a long time ago, but that's only because they tasted so awful and were marketed so heavily.
(Somehow, Zima still persists, though no one has determined why).

O Boise's
Made by Keebler, and that this was their attempt at the potato chip market. Fairly thick potato chips, came in various flavors. The commercial song went "O'Boise's are O-BOISTEROUS!"
O'Grady's Potato Chips
A really thick ridged chip, I think that Lays made them in different flavors. My particular favorite was "The Works" They just disappeared off the market. Too bad! They rocked!
O.J. Cereal
The cereal was shaped like oranges and had a cowboy for a mascot character.
OK Soda
I am not sure if this came out in the early 90's or the 80's but it was a new kind of soda sold in silver cans. It had a number to call on the side which was "1-800-Feel-OK" and the commercials were complete madness! It died out. :(
Oatmeal Swirlers
It was oatmeal that came with packets of strawberry, maple brown sugar, or milk chocolate icing to swirl on top after it was cooked.
Oh Henry!
A chocolate bar with a yellow wrapper a red O and the rest of the letters were brown.
Old London's Cheese Waffle Snacks
Kind of hard to describe....the best way, I guess, is a waffle-type cheese-flavored chip in circles about as big as half dollars with a very cheesy center...........strange but good.
On Tap Draft Style Root Beer
A distinctively flavored root beer made by Pepsi in the late 70s and early 80s. It had an incredibly frothy head and a real birchy flavor. Was sad to see it disappear.
Oogle Peanut Butter
It was a chocolate flavored peanut butter.
Orange Blossom Popsicle
Orange Blossom Popsicle was a vanilla ice cream and orange sherbert mixed popsicle that was so good. They're still sold today in stores as well as in half gallons of ice cream.
Orange Crush ice cream bars
It had light shell of orange that tasted like the soda and a cream inside that was out of this world the best ever
Orange Julius
Sort of like a smoothie, very frothy, tasty and sweet. They may have had other flavours, but I always had the orange. I hear rumours they still exist, but...My favourite things about the mall in the 80s, Orange Julius and the Rainbow Shop. They were AWESOME.
Orbit
This was a bubblegum similer to "Tidal Wave". The commercials seemed to identify the gum with the then new space shuttle. It had a liquid center and lost its flavor after five minutes.
Oreo Big Stuff
Giant sized oreos that came packaged in individual cellophane wrappers and about six to a box. They were large....about 4 inches across and a godsend to those who'd twist apart oroeos and stick em together to make a larger cookie. Took a big glass of milk though!
Oreo Ice Cream
I can hardly believe nobody made any mention of this. It was vanilla ice cream swirled together with chunks of Oreo cookies and chocolate syrup. It's too bad they don't make this anymore.
Oreo Ice Cream Sandwiches
They were Oreo cookies with cookies-n-cream ice cream in the middle...mmmmmmm yummmy a favorite of mine.
Orville Reddenbockers flavored microwave popcorn
This was a microwave popcorn that can in a variety of flavors. There was cheddar, sour cream, and nacho cheese. Ater putting the poipcorn in the microwave you opened the bag and sprinkled the flavor seasonings on it. Although, there was never enough in the packet.
Otterpops
They were popsicles that were in bags that you kept in the freezer...had flavors like Alexander the Grape.
Ovaltine
The commercials said it was Nestle Quik with more vitamins and minerals. I say it was dirt in a jar.
