Food of the Eighties, Products Beginning with B
I've been asked a couple of times for information about what food was
specific to the 80s, so I've started a small list which I'm sure will grow
pretty rapidly. Cereals of the 80s have their own page.
This list contains items that were around before and after the 80s, I'm looking for
stuff that was still popular in the 80s. So this list will contain items
that were around in the 70s, and maybe earlier if they were still popular.
Please note! Zima and clear colas were a 90s fad, not an 80s fad! I know it might
seem like a long time ago, but that's only because they tasted so awful and were marketed so heavily.
(Somehow, Zima still persists, though no one has determined why).

BIG SHOT
It was chocolate milk flavoring in pressurized can. There was a picture of a soda jerk on the can. The can would be turned upside down, the top of the can pressed against the top of the glass. Pressing down on the can released a high pressure stream of chocolate syrup into the milk. The high pressure made it unnecessary to stir the milk.
BK Broilers
Burger King had more than one grilled chicken sandwich in the late '80s, they had 3! The only difference between them was the toppings and cheeses. I think Burger King still sells one of them, its about the only thing left at Burger King that isn't deep-fried.
BLEEPS
I Believe This Is From The 80's..they Were Disc Shaped Sweet Tarts That Came In Yellow, green, red, and Were Sold In The Vending Machines In Grocery Type Stores..yum..can Still Find Them Occasionally
Baffy Taffy
It was a stick of taffy that when chewed (and chewed) turned into bubble gum.

Banana Flavored Frosted Flakes
Frosted flakes but had a banana flavored coating to it. Came in a yellow box with Tony the Tiger.
Banana Split
it was an ice cream pop/bar on a stick like a popsicle. Covered in a chocolate shell with vanilla ice cream, over strawberry ice cream, over banana ice cream. It came in a silver wrapper with a picture of perhaps a girl or something on the front of it and was sold for $0.25 to $0.50 a popsicle at corner stores all over Monroe LA in the 1980s
Bananaberry Gum
A Bubbalicious invention (I'm pretty sure - I get Bubbalicious and Bubble Yum mixed up). Came out in 85 or 86. Part of a new line of '2-in-one' flavors put out by the company. Hot pink strawberry-flavored gum wrapped around a bright yellow square of banana-flavored gum. It was delicious - super sweet! - and looked great in the palm of your hand (unchewed, that is).
Banquet Boiling Bags
It was either a piece of sliced turkey or beef in a bag with gravy and you would boil it. It was around in the early to mid 80's. I'll never forget them!!
Bar None
This is a candy bar that may have come out before the 80's. It consisted of layers of chocolate wafers, sandwiched with a chocolate filling with bits of nut mixed in, all covered by chocolate. These came 2 in a package, like Twix bars.
BarBQ Pizza from Pizza Hut
Barbq Sauce was used instead of tomato sauce and then covered with cheese and any topics desired. My favorite pizza ever.
Barnum and Bailey's Animal Crackers
Animal shaped cracker/cookies that came in a box looking like a circus cart with animals in it...had the string to carry it with.
Bartles and James Wine Coolers
Similar to California Coolers but I think they were the first to come up with flavors. Plus, the commercials with those two guys were classic.
Bartles and Jaymes
These were wine coolers, maybe the first, or maybe it was Seagrams Golden wine coolers (with Bruce Willis) in their ads. They were very popular with high school students. You could get pretty drunk on 2 or 3! They were very sweet, in berry flavors.
Bassets Sherbet Fountain
Bassets Sherbet Fountain was in a soft yellow cylindrical package with black and red lettering on it. You would tear a corner to reveal a piece of licorice to use as a straw to eat the sour dextrose. It was similar to lic a maid but more tart. It is still available in UK http://www.wisechoiceuk.com/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=5051
Batman cereal
When the movie came out in 1989, they brought a cereal with it. It was alright if you were one of those Saturday morning get up and watch cartoon like people that I was then. Had a deep honey flavor and shaped like small bats.
Bavarian Waffle Ice Cream Cones
Used mostly for soft-serve ice cream or frozen yogurt. But these oversized, sugar-filled cones were even more fattening than the stuff inside it.
Bazooka Bubble Gum (in a tube)
Bazooka made a gum in the 80's that was in a tube like a toothpaste tube. Messy stuff, and very, very soft till it was chewed for a while.
Bazooka Gum
This cute little square bubblegum came with a small little comic for people to read.
Beanee Weenee's
Baked beans with hot-dog chunks. Tasted pretty good until that one summer that was all that you had to eat.

Beefy Tostada from Taco Bell
Not sure when this came out, but it was a flat tortilla with refried beans, beef, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, and black olives. It disappeared around 88-89.
Beemans Gum
Beeman's Gum was re-introduced by Warner-Lambert in 1986. I remember Beeman's unique licorice-like flavor and the attractive females with popular Bealtes songs featured in the television commercials. Adams introduced Beeman's Gum in late 1890's and became popular throughout the 1950's. Warner-Lambert bought the Adam's Gum company and discontinued the gum in the mid 1970's until it's re-appearence in the 80's through WL's "Nostalgia Gum Program".
Beep
Orange Drink once available in Canada, about 1% real juice, probably just like Sunny Delight, awful stuff.
Bell Beefers
Taco Bell - Bell Beefers. Taco filling (ground beef, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce) on a hamburger bun! Loved those things. BRING BACK THE BELL BEEFER!
Bellbeefer
Sort of a taco hamburger at Taco Bell. They used ground beef instead of an actual hamburger patty. It was on a hamburger bun with shredded cheese, lettuce, etc. They were great. From Early 80's to mid to late 80's.
Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream
This expensive ice cream was first introduced in the 1980's. They still sell it at grocery stores in those pint size cups.
Betty Crocker Stir & Frost
Inclusive cake mix made by BETTY CROCKER in the 80's. Unfortunately is no longer in production. Came in a few flavors. Yellow Cake with Chocolate frosting and others, but my favorite was the Lemon Cake with Lemon Frosting. The cake mix, frosting and foil lined cardboard baking pan were all included in the box. All you did was add water to the mix and bake. Once the cake cooled, you opend the packet of frosting and whoala. One of the best things I ever ate or made, as a kid.
Big Bol
A hard piece of candy with the tiniest bit of gum on the inside. That had a great taste but kept you wanting more to chew.
Big Buddy
A foot long stick of gum in various flavors similar to Bub's Daddy, except it was flat.
Big Foot
A big purple foot shaped ice cream that had a gumball in the big toe. They didn't taste great - probably from all the dye! Usually could only get them from Dickie Dee...
Big Hunk
White taffy candy chock full of peanuts. Kind of breaks when you bite into it. Not really chewy. Also, not to be confused with Abba Zabba.
Big League Chew
Shredded bubble gum that was supossed to be like chewing tobacco. It was very sweet and also messy.
Big League Plug
I loved these!! They were chocolate flavored retangular shaped blocks. They came in packs like Big League Chew. They were supposed to look like a chewing tobacco plug. The flavor was a lot like Tootsie Rolls.
Big Mouth
Big Mouth's were a HUGE jaw breaker on a stick. In the middle there was gum. I think you either had to break it or suck on it for days to get to the gum and every layer was a different color.
Big Otis
An ice cream sandwich with chocolate-dipped oatmeal cookies on the top and bottom and vanilla ice cream in the middle! Delicious!
Big Red
Soda Pop that taste like Bubble Gum......I would get it once a week in the 80's.

Almond bits blended into a honey flavored taffy. Sound good? It was.
Blow Pops
Standard lollipops with a wad of bubblegum in the center. It came in flavors like cherry and sour apple and were distributed by Charms.
Blue Baloo
It was an ice cream treat. It was simply berry flavoured blue ice cream, with a blue shell (like a cone dipped in chocolate) around the ice cream. Damned tasty. Don't know if it was anywhere other than Canada.
Blue Cream Soda
The best cream soda in the world. I used it find it on trips to Florida at Circle K's. It was the most beautiful shade of blue and the creamiest soda! I loved it!!! They must have stopped making it. I've looked for years.
Blue Sky Soda
Early 80's ('82-'83)A carbonated BLUE soda that I guess tasted like blue raspberry. My friends and I would drink it on the beach in the summer and eat Suzie Qs and Doritos! Remember those days when we didn't have to worry so much about what we ate and drank?!
Blue Tortilla Chips
The makers claimed there was no dye. They looked like regular Dorito's that sat in the oven too long.
Blueberry Hubba Bubba
The best bubble gum flavor ever invented! This delicious gum came out around 84 or 85, I believe, and was a dark blue color. Yum! Wish they still made it ...
Bluebird - Laser Bar
Bright Orange Chew/Suck Type Thing. Red Wrapper. Banned in our School in Cornwall. Made by Bluebird I think.
Boku
It was a fruit drink that came in a taller box, and instead of poking a straw through, you peeled back a piece of foil. It was a very good drink.
Bomb pop
Ice cream confection on a stick. Chocolate outer shell and banana and cherry ice cream in the middle...delicious...possibly the best ever made...used to get them when i lived in queens in the early eighties...
Bon-Bons
Bon-Bons were little dollops of ice cream covered in chocolate. You could even get them at the movies at one point.
Bonkers
Bonkers had a center flavor and another flavor layer around them. I remember going to the mall and seeing the Bonker-Mobile- basically a large van with two rooms, with padded walls colored and shaped like fruit. Kids would slam their bodies around on the walls and floor, somewhat like a Mr. Bouncity Bounce. I remember being very upset when mom said it was time to finally leave the mall and the beloved bonker-mobile.
Bonomo's Turkish Taffy
It was flat and you would slam it on the sidewalk to break it, flavors were....banana, strawberry, vanilla, chocolate
Bonton Potato chips
These chips were awesome. They are still being made today. They come in a variety of flavors. To name a few: Plain, Salt and vinegar, and most popular in the 80's Barbeque.
Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill
This was a "wine" that had to be made for teenagers and college students. It was and is still a pink, sweet "wine". Much sweeter than real wine, even white zinfandel. Especially good drunk ice cold , out of the bottle.
Boppers
Sort of a granola-type bar with a peanut butter tunnel in the middle.
Bosco
Everyones loves the cute little bear's chocolate syrup, but it also came in strawberry (hard to find) and blue berry (harder to find).

Chewy orange candies wrapped in edible rice paper. My mother used to buy these at the Oriental food stores.
Bottle Caps
This Willy Wonka candy came in rolls like sweet tarts and had the consistency of sweet tarts yet they came in soda pop flavors like cola, root beer, grape, orange, etc.
Bounty Candy Bars
Bounty bars were basically the same thing as Mounds and Almond Joy candy bars, but had better packaging. They were around in the late 80's I believe.
Bravos
These cheesy chips were round and tasted similar to Doritos. They came in a red bag and I think had a sombrero on the cover.
Breakfast Burrito
These may have existed before the 80's but I don't remember seeing them in restaurants til then. Basically a tortilla stuff with scrambled eggs, onions, cheese, and peppers. Salsa or other sauces may be included.
Breakfast Treats
"S" shaped pastry to be eaten in the morning. The commercial had a woman getting caught by her husband eating one for a midnight snack.
Brown Cow
Similar to Yoo-Hoo but not quite as diluted. Came in a brown can featuring a cow, served ICE cold. A favorite from the vending machine at the rec center. Spanned many community-pool-going years...
Bub's Daddy
Bub's Daddy Bubble Gum was packaged in peel away plastic protection. It was one piece of gum about 12" to 15" long and about 1/2" round. Came in multiple flavors, but I best remember watermellon.
Bubba-yum bubble gum
Extremely soft and flavorful square hunk of sickenly sweet bubble gum with sugar granuals so large the gum actually had a slight gritty crunch to it. No to mention that more than one piece would make your teeth hurt. (Try the grape). I'm pretty sure this gum hit the market about "83-84"
Bubble Burger Gum
A huge piece of gum (at least three ounces) shaped like a burger and packaged like a McDonald's burger of the era, in a styrofoam box.
Bubble Gum (or Yum) Soda Pop
It is flavored like pink bubblegum-and yes it was gross. I found it in the grocery stores in Montana while on vacation around 88-89. I thought it was too cool at the time so I decided to save a can to show my friends back at home. I still have an unopened can around here somewhere!
Bubble Gum Cigarettes
These were the size of real cigarettes, wrapped in paper even. Think they had flour in them so when you'd blow through it...looked like smoke coming from the tip.
Bubble O Bill
It's an ice-cream bar in the shape of a face. Flavors included Strawberry, Vanilla, and Chocolate ice cream; had a hard chocolate candy backing and a bubble gum nose.
Bubble Tape
Bubble Gum in a tape dispenser...came in a variety of flavors.
Bubble Yum - Wacky Fruit Flavor
It sort of tasted like peach if I remember correctly. It came in beige or light yellow packaging with polka-dots (pink I think, or maybe orange.)
Bubble Yum Bubble Gum
--Chocolate mint flavor. It was a yucky green color, but tasted just like chocolate mint
Bubble-Eez bubble gum
It was the softest gum. It came in a pack where you had to pop it out, much like the way some pills come today. I think there were six. The commercial was of astronauts in space reaching for the gum floating by. The song was "Bubble Eeez.....Bubble Gum."
Bubble-Yum Pop
It was soda pop that tasted like bubble gum. It was made by Bubble-Yum I think. They were in pink cans.
BubbleFudge
At the height of the thick-block bubblegum craze (BubbleYum, Hubba Bubba, Bubblicious), BubbleYum came out with BubbleFudge -- of course, chocolate-flavored gum. I was dying to try it, begged my dad to bring me some...and it was completely disgusting. Vanished soon after. (Possibly this was late-70s, but I think it was very early 80s.)
Bubbleez Bubble Gum
It was six gumballs in a pop out pouch (you know like pills come in) and there was an astronaut on the ad. "Bubble Ubble Ez Bubble Ubble Gum... It's Like Nothing You've Ever Seen..."
Bubblicious bubble gum
One of the clones of Bubble Yum and Hubba Bubba, created around the same time.
Bubblo Gum
This was gum that had some sort of jelly filled centre. Nasty, NASTY stuff now that I think about it.
Buffalo bill ice cream bar
I remember an ice cream bar from the 80's called Buffalo Bill, it had chocolate head, a vanilla face and bubblegum nose. It was pretty yummy too. I use to buy it from Mr. softee. (you know the ice cream truck) Hmm maybe it was a NY thing.LOL That ice cream bar is defintely from the 80's There is alo Flintsone Ice cream bars. I still see those around
Bugles
Bugles -- we always ate these in the 80's (although they may have come out in the 70's?).
Buns
What about Buns, they were chocolate/nut clusters that came in caramel, vanilla, and fudge flavors? I used to love them when I was little!
Burger Buddies
Teeny tiny hamburgers from Burger King. I think they came in a three-pack. They were probably out in the mid- to late-80s.
Burger King Bumbleberry Pie
Not sure if that was the exact name, but it was THE best!! Sometimes McDonald's carries one similar now, when they have "feature" pies.
Burger King Burger Buddies
I worked at Burger King in 1989 and they came out with two small mini burgers that were attached called Burger Buddies. 2 for $1. I remember them because the frozen patties were already attached and stayed that way through the grill, and the buns were too; but easy to break off and eat seperatly. Also - they were small enough to eat in a couple bites in the back room without being noticed for a quick snack!!
Burger King German Chocolate Pie
It was on the dessert menu at Burger King for a very short time back in 1989. It was a pie made from the stuff that german chocolate cake is frosted with (a gooey, coconut & sugar concoction) with a little chocolate icing on top.
Burger King Whaler Sandwich
The fish sandwich from Burger King. They still have it, but it's called the Big Fish now, probably due to the fact that Whales are endangered species. How politically correct of them!
Burger King's Bullseye Burger
Came on a long Sesamae seed bun two beef patties side by side with chedder cheese and bullseye bbq sauce. First burger I remember being served with Onion Rings on it. Later re-packaged as the rodeo burger (regular round burger with no onion rings)
Burger King's Croissandwich
A competitor to the McDonalds breakfast sandwich, it is still around to day
Burger King's International Chicken Sandwichs
Variations on the current BK chicken sandwich. The Italian has marinara sauce and mozarella cheese. The French had a slice of ham, swiss cheese and mayo. The American was the same as current chicken sandwich but with tomatoes.
Burger King: Veal Parmesan Sandwich
Veal sandwich on long bun (like current chicken sandwich) with red sauce and parmesan and mozzarella cheese melted on top. Wish they still made these. Delicious!
Buried Treasure
Orange Sherbet ice cream treat on a plastic stick. On the top part of the stick (which held the ice cream) was usually an amimal or circus character. It came in a blue wrapper and it appeared like an upside down cone. (The skinny part was on the bottom)
Burple
Basically it was a powdered drink mix in an accordian style bottle. You stretched out the bottle before adding water. The noise of expanding the bottle and the chugging noise it made when poured sounded like a burp. It was probably out around 1987-1988.
