Food of the Eighties, Products Beginning with D

I've been asked a couple of times for information about what food was specific to the 80s, so I've started a small list which I'm sure will grow pretty rapidly. Cereals of the 80s have their own page.

This list contains items that were around before and after the 80s, I'm looking for stuff that was still popular in the 80s. So this list will contain items that were around in the 70s, and maybe earlier if they were still popular.

Please note! Zima and clear colas were a 90s fad, not an 80s fad! I know it might seem like a long time ago, but that's only because they tasted so awful and were marketed so heavily. (Somehow, Zima still persists, though no one has determined why).

DIXIES DRUMSTICK SNACK CRACKERS
This was a snack cracker that NABISCO made in the early 80's. They were chicken flavored, and shaped to look like miniature drumsticks. They had a commercial featuring a Dixieland band singing - "DIXIES.... DIXIES.... DRUMSTICK....SNACK CRACKERS!" I thought they were quite good, and other than the fact that their CHICKEN IN A BISCUIT crackers were also similarly flavored, I don't know why they stoped making them. Nobody other than me seems to remember them.
The Dairy Queen Blizzard!
Ice cream with the candy and stuff (oreo/m&m/reese's/etc.) all blended together in those cups. It is sad that there are kids today who think that the McFlurry (rip-off) was the first, but it wasn't.
Danish Bar
This bar was like a cream color with a chocolate swirl on top of it. This bar was in a clear wrapper and tasted of a thin wafer and cinnamon.
Dannon Dan-Ups
Remember Dannon Dan-Ups? This was an early brand of drinkable yogurt that came in a little plastic bottle. Yum!
Dannon Yogurt Bars
Frozen vanilla yogurt bars on a stick
DareDevils
Wow! I wish these were still around, I couldn't find them anywhere on the internet. These were a Willy Wonka candy that were the "Evil Twin" of Gobstoppers. Same size box, only box was black and the little "Gobstopper" had flames, same size candy, only they were HOT. Almost like Atomic Fireballs only smaller so you could be less conspicuous in class. I also like the taste a bit better than Fireballs. Fireballs have now copied them with a smaller version, but they are wrapped. I miss being able to pop them out of the box in junior high 1984.
Del Monte Bubble Gum Pudding
This was either very late 80s or early 90s...it came in the old can with the ring you had to pull off. It had "Alvin and the Chipmunks" on the packaging. It tasted like bubble gum, and was pink and delicious.
Delaware (something)
it was in a wild pink and purple striped can - i think it was sold either with the sodas or fruity drinks aisles in the 80's. it was like drinking sugar water! i wish i could remember the full name... delaware punch? delaware soda?
DiGiorno Fresh Pizzas
This pizza came in a box in the refrigerated case (with the cans of biscuts) You had to assble it yourself. I remember unrolling the dough, making a rectangle shaped pizza. These were pretty good, I wish they still made them. I guess they want us to eat their frozen pizza instead.
Diet Coke
Introduced in 1982, Diet Coke shot up the charts to become the uncontested #4 soft drink in America (with only Coke, Pepsi, and 7-Up ahead of it) by the end of 1983. By 1984 it was comfortably nestled in the #3 spot.
Diet Rite
Diet soda sold in a variety of interesting flavors like Tangerine and White Grape.
Dingbats
Long narrow ice cream (vanilla) on a stick with a chocolate center, covered in chocolate. Also came in mint flavor.
Dinograms
Fairly large cookies(about 4") shaped like a stegosaurus. They were cinnamon/sugar flavored and came in rectangular green box.
Dinosaur Eggs
Back in the 80's I use to buy what I believe are called dinosaur eggs. They came in a black box (one per box). They were shaped like eggs, very hard, came in different colors. As you sucked on them, they turned different colors and at the end you were left with a little egg that had a powdery/sour tasting center.
Dinosour cereal
little colorful pieces of dinosaurs...tasted fruity!
Dip Sticks
A packet that came with a large flat tongue surpressor-like stick made of rock-solid condensed sugar, with sugary-flavored powder in two flavors (not unlike Pixie stick powder). You can dip that stick into the powder and therefore ingest twice as much sugar. But you had the lick the stick first for the powder to stick to it! Once you finished the powders, you'd usually throw the stick away. It never tasted great by itself.
Dipps
They were granola bars dipped in chocolate. They came in a few different flavors, such as peanut butter and chocolate chip. Delicious little chocolate treats.
Dipsy Doodles
A corn chip with a zig zag pattern. My favorite snack in High School :)
Dirty Laundry Candy
Small, sweet tart like candies shaped as shirts, socks, underwear, etc. Came packaged in a miniture plastic washing machine. Mid to late 80's.
Disney Character Popsicles
Popsicles in the shapes of goofy, mickey, donald, daisy, and minnie--you could bite their ears off!!
Donald Duck Orange Juice
Donald Duck orange juice! This juice came in a can with the now non-existent wrapper-like aluminum colored pull off tabs. The juice was sold in a can depicting Donald smiling.
Doo Dads
Kind of like chex mix, but in a blue box. They weren't as salty and they didn't have any rye chips in them.
Doolies
Hollow, ridged potato snacks; filled with sour cream and onion stuff that was fun to suck out!
Dorrito's Taco Flavor
These chips had an original taco flavor; no sour cream flavor. Really good. Haven't been able to find them in years.
Dots, aka Buttons
A strip of hard sugary candy that was dotted on a thin piece of paper that came rolled up in the packaging. It had a variety of colors, yellow, blue, and pink. You would have to rip off the candy dot, or bite it off which was impossible to do without getting some of the paper stuck to the back.
Dr. Pepper Gum
Another one of the liquid-filled gums of the '80s, it was purple with Dr. Pepper syrup in the center. It was pretty good, especially if you liked Dr. Pepper.
Drink Boxes
A small cardboard box lined with something like tin foil and plastic, used for dispensing just about any type of fruit drink. Very popular still.
Dunk-a-roos
"you don't just eat, you Dunk-a-roo" was the tag line of an Kangaroo shaped animal cracker that you can dunk in the frosting it provided. Strawberry, Chocolate, Vanilla and I think they had a promotional w/ sprinkles one 4th of July.
Dunkin Donuts Cereal
It had the "time to make the donuts" guy on the front and it came in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavors, they were so good!
Dunkin Stix
It was a cup that contained 5-6 cracker sticks and a little side cup of chcolate to dip them in. I remember the cup being a little larger then a Dixi cup.
Dutch Mill Donuts
These were very good donuts that came in a blue box with a picture of a windmill on them. Much better than Entenmann's, Hostess, or other boxed donuts. Haven't seen them since the early '90s. Loved the Glazed and Chocolate Glazed the most.
Dweebs
This candy which came out in the late 80's (or was it the early 90's I'm not quite sure) was designed to be a Nerds candy rip off. It looked and tasted like Nerds only it was not quite as sour and you only got one flavor per box.
Dynamints
Almost exactly like Tic-Tacs but the container was long-ways.
