Eighties Cover Songs, Songs Beginning with E
Thanks to Warren Bakay for suggesting this page to me, I hadn't even
realized until he mentioned it, the music industry is dredging up big
hits from the last decade due to a not-so-surprising lack of imagination by
the current stars. This should of course come to no suprise to
most people, some big hits of the eighties were covers
as well ("Mickey", "Der Kommisar", "You Keep Me Hanging On" (which was remade into a
hit four times so far)). So far though, most covers have been pretty
hideous. We only list songs that are originally from the eighties and are now being made
into covers. We also only list a band if they're already well known
or the group is making a lot of radio play with the remake.
Oh and to clear up a misconception a few people out there seem to be having
about this page (and sending me very nasty letters). I have no problem with
artists who do a cover of a song in concert, or because they are just
starting out and don't have enough original material of their own for a full
set of songs. As a matter of fact, cover bands can be great fun to
go and see. All groups in modern history start out this way, I own a lot of
The Beatles albums and they were the original cover group. A lot of
early rock songs were covers of old R&B tunes. It's a fact of life.

Cheech and Chong, Remade by
Korn
Pretty decent cover of a very funny Cheech and Chong comedy song.
, Originally by
Cheech & Chong, Remade by
Rollins Band
Smokin' cover, true to the original crunch of Chong's guitar.
, Originally by
The Commoders, Remade by
Faith No More
For me...it sounds better with faith no more, cuz Mike Patton had a great voice for this song...that's on my opinion
, Originally by
The Commodores, Remade by
Faith No More
Very good cover; Shorter than the original version, but took me by surprise the first time I heard it.

Phil Collins & Philip Bailey, Remade by
Jaded Heart
A Metal/AOR cover of the classic Collins Tune. It was just a B Side extra on one of their albums. Not Bad.
, Originally by
Stevie Nicks, Remade by
Linsay Lohan
Sounds ok'ish but still doesn't have that raspy rock voice to it.
, Originally by
The Beatles, Remade by
Realm
This song smokes. They took the origonal version sped it up about 5 times and gave a cover that totally rocks. Check it out, it is on Realm's "Endless War" album released in 1988. I am sure it is very hard to find. But well worth it.
, Originally by
The Beatles, Remade by
Thrice
Badass song, but I think the godhead version was alot better
, Originally by
The Beatles, Remade by
Zoot
Different,good but different
, Originally by
The Beatles, Remade by
Pain
I saw these guys in support for another band, they blew me away and subsequently I forgot who they were supporting now!
, Originally by
The Beatles, Remade by
Godhead
Overall a good song. It is hard to destroy a beatles song, and luckly Godhead doesn't. Has a Marylin Manson feel to it, but with softer vocals.
, Originally by Beatles, Remade by Gang Green

Eddy Grant, Remade by
Tait
Michael Tait, of DC Talk, covered this with his band Tait on their Lose This Life cd. They did an AWESOME job!
, Originally by Eddy Grant, Remade by Pras

OMD, Remade by
Nofx
On the 'Before you were punk II' compilation - a bunch of punk bands doing 80's covers. This song kinda sounds like an Offspring song, but a lot better than the original (I think.) Nofx are wicked at covers, and this one is no exception.
, Originally by
The Who, Remade by
Matchbox Twenty
From their "Live in Detroit" Album,Matchbox's version of my favorite Who song isnt THAT bad 'cause Matchbox is decent:)But it just doesnt have that succinct, driving rythym that The Who's version did which I think is what gives it so much character.
, Originally by
Bee Gees, Remade by
Destiny's Child
This song was annoying in the first place but the new version is much better.
, Originally by
Don Henley, Remade by
Ben
A great example of how slowing a song down creates even more feeling than the original.
, Originally by
Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross, Remade by
Luther Vandross and Mariah Carey
Just as beautiful as the original.
, Originally by
Depeche Mode, Remade by
Failure
It was good. sounds pretty close to the original. it was a tribute to depeche mode; also on teh same cd as rammstein's cover of stripped.
, Originally by
Depeche Mode, Remade by
Sukubus
It's true to the original, I hate covers but I like this song...
, Originally by
Depeche Mode, Remade by
Matthew Good Band
I'm a huge fan of both groups... I love the beat of the Depeche Mode version, but the MGB puts a sweet guitar edge to it.

This One Whips @$$ Too I Love All The Remade Songs Of The Years That Have Past This Songs Is Heavier Than H-I-M's Version But H-I-M Got The Set Of Vocal's For It Any Way Have This Song A Listen
, Originally by

Him (his Infernal Majesty)
it was a good cover the singer from him and depeche mode have great voices. although it was a live performance, it was still good. :)

These guys are like my favorite band, ant they totally rock this out!

Cool American West Coast style pop cover with good harmonies, guitar and production.
, Originally by
Depeche Mode, Remade by
Evergreen Terrace
If you like hardcore music it's pretty good. if not you'll think it sucks. I really like it a lot.
, Originally by
Depeche Mode, Remade by
Lacuna Coil
pretty good
, Originally by

Tori Amos
Good Cover. Mostly piano. Tori puts a really good twist on things, I think. Still kind of a dreary feel to it. I give it a B.
, Originally by
Depeche Mode, Remade by
Evergreen Terrace
amazing... this band covers songs incredibly well. (besides the fact their own stuff is amazing too)
, Originally by
Depeche Mode, Remade by
Apoptygma Berzerk
I got this version from a friend. It was a live concert done somewhere in Europe. It was strange to hear it for the first time. I am a big fan of both groups, and Apop's sound definately added to this DM familiar.

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Remade by
The Faint
Sounds weird, but in a good way (IMHO). ;)
, Originally by
Metallica, Remade by
Die Krupps
Excellent industrial take on this tune. In fact, this band has done an entire industrial tribute to Metallica. Worth a listen!
, Originally by
Metallica, Remade by
The Monoxides
An Excellent Cover it sounds a hell of alot like the original but is surprisingly better than Metallica's version, i mean i loved metallica's version but The Monoxides kicked ass on this one. oh by the way it was performed live. got to www.windowsmedia.com You can find it there i did.

The New Morty Show (on Mortyfied!)
Slick jazz/swing version. Little rough on the transition to the prayer.
, Originally by

Apocalyptica
4 Cellos rocking out on Metallica shows you how melodic Metallica Really is.
, Originally by
Metallica, Remade by
Motorhead
Its about time somebody gave Metallica a shot of their own medicine. Metallica's been making a living off of Motorhead's sound for decades, and You'll agree that Lemmy and Motorhead make James and Metallica sound like a bunch of little girls once you hear this version. Off the ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling) CD...One of my favorite covers of all time.
, Originally by
Metallica, Remade by
Fear Factory
It's alright, in my opinion, but i don't like metallica so i can't really say it's better than the original seeing as basically it's the same song preformed live
, Originally by
Metallica, Remade by
Pantera
Pantera went a little drum crazy with the song and sped it up too much, there;s nothing like metallica's version
, Originally by
The Bangles, Remade by
Atomic Kitten
I LOVED IT. I love the origional as well but atomic kitten has done wonderful covers.

What, a cover of FYC's "Ever Fallen In Love"? Actually, no. The original was by the Buzzcocks.

Perfect
Polish version is great I can't agree with the guy who has written that it sucks!!! Nasty.
, Originally by
The Police, Remade by
Puff Daddy & Faith Evans
What is this, a joke? Take a classic Police tune and turn it into a hip-hop song which strays completely from the original theme? Give me a break! Had I not known any better, this would've been a blatant case of plagarism!
, Originally by
The Police, Remade by
Millencolin
Ugh, too fast and rather atrocious. The original was so much better. I'd like to see a gothic band cover this song instead of just punk bands...
, Originally by
The Police, Remade by
Juliana Hatfield
Released originally in 2000 as a bonus CD for her double release and included on her career retrospective CD Gold Stars:1992-2002, She does the song justice, it doesn't stray far from the original although it is much heavier.
, Originally by
The Police, Remade by
Grzegorz Markowski
Polish version of the song, sucks totaly. With polish lyrics, kinda gay. UGH!
, Originally by
The Police, Remade by
Millencolin
cool punk tune but not as good as the original
, Originally by
The Police, Remade by
Puff Daddy & Faith Evans (featuring 112)
Even after completely changing the lyrics and making it a talking song, this is actually pretty good. If only they didn't have those hideous scratchy sounding women doing the chourus, it would have been great!
, Originally by
The Police, Remade by
Sergio Blass ( Siempre te amaré)
It is an awful, kitsch, and horrible copy from a great song. That "singer" make this: Take a sad song and make it WORST"
, Originally by
The Police, Remade by
UB40
Love The Police. The reggae-stylings from the "50 First Dates" soundtrack had this cover. Decent enough. Org better. Considering the org is about stalking someone though... you decide!
, Originally by
Bobby Brown, Remade by
Play feat. Aaron Carter
I like it a lot better than the original version. Its more upbeat and catchy.
, Originally by
The Police, Remade by

Great cover. The Pop-Metal sound works good with this song.
, Originally by

The Corrs
If there was ever such a charge as "Crimes Against Music", The Corrs should be sentenced to life imprisonment. Or death. Or both. Totally devoid of passion, this is Music-By-Numbers if ever I've heard it!

Awsome
, Originally by

Nas featuring Amerie
This song was sampled and chourus used for Nas' song "Rule" used for the soundtrack to last year's July release of Like Mike, a movie starring Lil Bow Wow abour a height-challenged, no skills in b-ball orphan who finds a pair of magical Nikes owned by Michael Jordan and ends up in the NBA.

A very good reggae cover.
, Originally by

Armageddon Dildos
Charming! Kind of an industrial/EBM type cover, but the lead singer has the new wave croon goin' on.
, Originally by
The Smiths, Remade by
10'000 Maniacs
ok, but they just make sound happy
, Originally by
Depeche Mode, Remade by
In Flames
Mostly sounds like an In Flames song with the melodic chorus of the original oddly incongruent. Good song, not so good cover.
, Originally by
Bryan Adams, Remade by
A New Found Glory
excellent, realy good punkrock cover
, Originally by

Brandy
Brandy's version is wonderful and is just as good as Adams. I read somebody refer to her as another "so called soul/r&b artist" who can't write her own songs, but I'll say this. I'd rather hear a song remade by a REAL artist (like many R&B artists) who will SING, instead of some stupid, crappy and fake punk/Rock band or something, who do the worst remakes. At least the "so called soul/r&b" artists know how to sing and actually make an effort to make a decent cover a song without a bunch of uselesss yelling and screaming, like many of these most of these suppposed "rock" bands do. It's okay to state your opinion, but it's another to make an ignorant commments on the internet!
, Originally by
Bread, Remade by
NSync
Absolutely wonderful. I'm not big on the cheese of the boy band, but the vocal arrangements just cannot be denied. They do justice in introducing a new generation to a great classic. (Also see their cover of Sailing by Christopher Cross -- the reason I bought the album in the first place)
, Originally by
New Order, Remade by
Razed In Black
Heavy pumping techno-goth version. Extremely well done. There is also an extended mix. Everyone I play it for loves it.

I'm not sure if this is an 80's song, but its good.

This is a really cool cover it's great to hear this rap song done by a hardcore band.

If you don't really like the original industrial sound you will surely fall for this sooting version of this lovely song.
