Eighties Cover Songs, Songs Beginning with H

Thanks to Warren Bakay for suggesting this page to me, I hadn't even realized until he mentioned it, the music industry is dredging up big hits from the last decade due to a not-so-surprising lack of imagination by the current stars. This should of course come to no suprise to most people, some big hits of the eighties were covers as well ("Mickey", "Der Kommisar", "You Keep Me Hanging On" (which was remade into a hit four times so far)). So far though, most covers have been pretty hideous. We only list songs that are originally from the eighties and are now being made into covers. We also only list a band if they're already well known or the group is making a lot of radio play with the remake.

Oh and to clear up a misconception a few people out there seem to be having about this page (and sending me very nasty letters). I have no problem with artists who do a cover of a song in concert, or because they are just starting out and don't have enough original material of their own for a full set of songs. As a matter of fact, cover bands can be great fun to go and see. All groups in modern history start out this way, I own a lot of The Beatles albums and they were the original cover group. A lot of early rock songs were covers of old R&B tunes. It's a fact of life.

"Hallowed Be Thy Name", Originally by Iron Maiden, Remade by Cradle of Filth
Ranks right up there with Opeth's cover of Remember Tomorrow. Nearly better than the original. Absolutely flawless.
"Hallowed Be Thy Name", Originally by Iron Maiden, Remade by Solitude Aeturnus
Solitude Aeturnus do another great job covering an 80s metal song. From the tribute album "A Call To Irons".
"Hallowed Be Thy Name", Originally by Iron Maiden, Remade by Cradle Of Filth
Lyrics are great, song by maiden realy sucks, cover by cradle RRRROOOOOOOOOCCCCCCKKKKKKKKSSSSSSS8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Hallowed Be Thy Name", Originally by Iron Maiden, Remade by Cradle Of Filth
Other person is obviously not a Maiden fan. Hallowed is one of the best classic metal songs out there. Cradle did OK until the end when the lyrics get growled and distorted to the point where he is just basically screaming incoherently into the microphone...not the worse but not the best.
"Halloween", Originally by Misfits, Remade by A.F.I.
very good actually but nobody can do it better than the misfits.
"Hand In Glove", Originally by The Smiths, Remade by Sandie Shaw
One of the best cover versions of the era IMO. Actually Morrissey himself persuaded Shaw to record this single together with him. Simply breathtaking.
"Handbags And Gladrags", Originally by Rod Stewart, Remade by Sterophonics
great version of old rod stewart song, although lead singer sounds just like rod stewart.
"Hangin Tough", Originally by New Kids On The Block, Remade by Jordan Knight
i know jordan knight was in the group nkotb and i loved him he was very sexi really sexi but he should of changed the son it was way better than it was changed
"Hangin'", Originally by Chic, Remade by Andrew Ridgely
"The Hanging Garden", Originally by The Cure, Remade by AFI
AFI does a good cover of it, but i wanted to point out that you missed this one. Or maybe I did. Anyhow, it is on their EP for "A Fire Inside."
"Happy Christams (war Is Over)", Originally by John Lennon, Remade by Thrice
I listend to all three versions, i thought the remake of thrice's was the closet to the original and it sounds great
"Happy Christmas (War Is Over)", Originally by John Lennon, Remade by Maroon 5
Nothing can replace a classic, but I think Maroon 5 did a respectful cover.
"Happy Together ", Originally by The Turtles, Remade by A New Found Glory
excellent, realy good punkrock cover
"Hard Luck Woman", Originally by Kiss, Remade by Garth Brooks
it's seems like the songs it was written to garth brooks or for another country singer. it's sounds very good to me
"Hard To Say I'm Sorry", Originally by Chicago, Remade by Babyface
Babyface has about the same version group as Az Yet. I have the Chicago song "Hard To Say I'm Sorry/Get Away". I love that Chicago song! Nice song!
"Hard To Say I'm Sorry", Originally by Chicago, Remade by Az Yet
After I heard "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" by Az Yet, I heard the original song by Chicago. Chicago's, "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" is a song from 1982, remade by Az Yet in 1997. The one by Az Yet is too short. So I got "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" by Chicago. It's a combo song with two songs put together. It's called "Hard To Say I'm Sorry/Get Away". I like the combo song better. I got the Chicago combo song in August 2003.
"Harvester of Sorrow", Originally by Metallica, Remade by Link 80
Ska version its horrible.
"Hash Pipe", Originally by Weezer, Remade by David Usher
Usher performed this live and did it with a very different twist adding the lyric's from Madonna's "Music" to the music of Hash Pipe! Very Cool! You can find this on Kaazaa!
"Have A Day", Originally by Elton John, Remade by The Polyphonic Spree
I really think that The Polyphonic Spree did a great job with making it close to the original song. Also, the remade the same song onto an E.P that has more of an instrumental approach. Both versions are EXCELLENT!!
"Hazy Shade of Winter", Originally by Simon and Garfunkel, The Bangles, Remade by Bodyjar
This song has had punk/rock potential since the Bangles did it their good version of it back in the day. Bodyjar nailed it!
"Hazy Shade of Winter", Originally by Paul Simon & Garfunkel, Remade by Mathilde Santing
Always loved the pace of the original song but the melancolic aproach by Mathilde Santing gives this song a fresh look; much better, in my opinion, than the Rock version by The Bangles. BTW, great site, congratulations!
"He's So Shy", Originally by Pointer Sisters, Remade by Beverly Ann
The remake was a Latino version in Spanish of course. I prefer the Pointers version, because of its late disco style.
"Head Like Hole", Originally by Nine Inch Nails, Remade by AFI
This song is going to be on the new grand theft auto game and is a great cover by a great band
"Head Like A Hole", Originally by Nine Inch Nails, Remade by AFI
Excellent Cover!! This song was on the GRAND THEFT AUTO: San Andreas Soundtrack!!
"Head On", Originally by Jesus and Mary Chain, Remade by The Pixies
I haven't heard much on the original, but the Pixies rock!
"Heart Of Glass", Originally by Blondie, Remade by Me First and The Gimmie Gimmies
...The Gimmie Gimmies what can i say they do good covers...
"Heart Of Glass(studio version)", Originally by Blondie, Remade by Erasure
The studio impression was better than the live one(which was structured the same way and kept the flow to the original) they were both primairly synth-based, and were fast-paced...and short! The song clocks in at 2:32! Blondie's was at least 5min
"Heart of Glass", Originally by Blondie, Remade by Skye Sweetnam
It's teeny bopper punk remake by an Avril Lavigne clone. I find the orignal to be a perky fun song while this new version lacks the signature squeek that Blondy is known for. I like it for it's edgy rebelious nature for kids of the 90s in stark contrast with teen rebels of the 80s.
"Heartbreaker", Originally by Pat Benatar, Remade by No Doubt
Very good replication of music and voice.
"Heartbreaker", Originally by Pat Benetar, Remade by Fall Silent
faster. heavier. just as awesome. on their "Six Years in the Desert" cd.
"Heaven", Originally by Bryan Adams, Remade by D.J. Sammy
Someone should've told D.J. Sammy that ballads do not make good dance mixes. B.A. should sue.
"Heaven", Originally by Warrant, Remade by New Found Glory
Great cover! Slow, steady beat is irresistable. The background vocals after the last chorus are mocked with a very high-pitched falsetto voice. Love it! New Found Glory makes the best punk covers!
"Heaven", Originally by Bryan Adams, Remade by Nick Carter
Nick Carter shouldn't be allowed to sing at all, let alone ruin perfectly good songs...
"Heaven", Originally by Bryan Adams, Remade by Do
The Dutch Singer Do did a good job with this cover
"Heaven", Originally by Warrant, Remade by New Found Glory
Great Cover
"Heaven", Originally by Bryan Adams, Remade by Daville
I thought this was really well done...chorus sung very passionately with a smooth reggae groove
"Heaven", Originally by Warrant, Remade by New Found Glory
Hearing a great 80s rock ballad played like an upbeat power-pop song is enough to make you sick. The singer's whiny nasal voice made it even worse.
"Heaven", Originally by Bryan Adams, Remade by Dj Sammy
Just horrible. That song should not have been made into a dance song. Now people don't know who originally did it or that it is a cover in the first place. Very overrated and overplayed.
"Heaven ", Originally by Bryan Adams, Remade by Dj Sammy
it was a good cover in the style of dance and techno but as usual the originals are the best
"Heaven Is A Place On Earth", Originally by Belinda Carlisle, Remade by Student Rick
Cute version.
"Heaven Isn't Too Far Away", Originally by Warrant, Remade by A New Found Glory
I mean, it's not warrant, but it's an ok deal. I give them credit tho cus it's not too like "Oh, they remade THAT song." its like "Ohh yea.. i remember this.. that's cool."
"Hello", Originally by Lionel Richie, Remade by Luther Vandross
"Hello", Originally by Lionel Ritchie, Remade by Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies
Was never a big fan of Mr. Ritchie, but after hearing how well Me First pulled this sappy song off, I had to give credit where credit is due. The song is really well crafted and is a tribute to Lionel that it sounds really good as a punk song
"Hello", Originally by Lionel Ritchie , Remade by Incubus
One of the best covers of this song I have heard. It is an acoustic version played during KROQ special in the Morning View house they recorded the album Morning View. Download ASAP
"Hello I Love You", Originally by The Doors, Remade by The Cure
"Hells Bells", Originally by Ac/dc, Remade by Dandy Warhols
freaky good.
"Here Comes My Baby", Originally by Cat Stevens, Remade by Yo La Tengo
great upbeat version
"Here Comes The Rain Again", Originally by Eurythmics, Remade by Akyra Featuring Maria Rubia
"Here Comes The Rain Again", Originally by Eurythmics, Remade by The Crüxshadows
The cover version from darwave band The Crüxshadows is fairly good, though pretty close to the original song. The singer Rogue has about the same vocal range as Annie Lennox. A good job. The cover version is available on UNTIL THE VOICES FADE (Limited Collector's Edition Maxi-CD).
"Here Comes Your Man", Originally by Pixies, Remade by Samiam
Found on the 'Where Is My Mind?' tribute album.
"Here Comes the Rain Again", Originally by Eurythmics, Remade by Omnibox
Love it! Take the classic, step it up a bit, and add some techno beats. Very modern cover, while remaining very true to the original.
"Here I Am (send Me An Angel)", Originally by Scorpions, Remade by Jan Wayne
good
"Here I Go Again", Originally by White Snake, Remade by Marta Wianiewska
Not a bad cover it is dance oriented
"Heroes", Originally by David Bowie, Remade by Fricción
An argentinian banda with an spanish version of david bowie's classic "Heroes"... it has a great sound... i love it.
"Heroin", Originally by The Velvet Underground & Nico, Remade by Billy Idol
Es una gran versión que no tiene mucho que ver con la original, exceptuando la letra, con bases tecno y guitarras eléctricas. Aparece en el disco CYBERPUNK (1993), que es curioso y cojonudo
"Hey, Hey Helen", Originally by ABBA, Remade by Lush
"Higher Ground", Originally by Stevie Wonder, Remade by Eric Clapton
Excellent cover of the Stevie Wonder classic. I like Claptons' version better than the Red Hot Chili Peppers'.
"Highway To Hell", Originally by AC\DC, Remade by Marylin Manson
sweet dreams by marylin manson rockes
"Highway To Hell", Originally by Ac/Dc, Remade by Marilyn manson
a baby bottle pop...
"Highway To Hell", Originally by AC/DC, Remade by The Electric Hellfire Club
loud.
"Highway To Hell", Originally by AC/DC, Remade by Mambo Kurt
bizzarro cover version with 80's synth music, a great weird voice that sings and the "hella hella hella" screams are priceless. a great, fun alternative to the metal original version.
"Highway to Hell", Originally by AC/DC, Remade by Hayseed Dixie
Highway to Hell... the country version, is hilarious. This band has redone the greatest hits of AC DC on a CD. Best kind of cross over.
"Highway to Hell", Originally by AC/DC, Remade by Collective Soul
I saw It Live, I Liked It.
"Highway to Hell", Originally by AC/DC, Remade by Marilyn Manson
Even a goth-y fest of distortion, drawn-out whiny lyrics, and a circus-freak performer can't TOTALLY destroy Young, Young, and Scott's tongue-in-cheek clean-guitared rock anthem. But it can certainly try.
"Highway to Hell", Originally by AC/DC, Remade by Iced Earth
Pretty straight-forward cover remaining very faithful.
"Highway to Hell ", Originally by AC/DC , Remade by Maroon 5
Don't think it was the best idea for them to try to perform this song. I dont really care for it.
"Hip Hop", Originally by SOS Band, Remade by LL Cool J
LL Cool J's producer had brought a whole new flavour (guess - it's the LL flav;-) in this groove of 1996, Album: mr. smith. The original is very deep, epic and slowjam-like, while the (sample-)cover is more flat but spiced with nice lyrics interesting for anyone who likes Hip Hop (check out and you'll hear). Fans of smooth grooves should check out both versions.
"Hold Me Now", Originally by Thompson Twins, Remade by Lasgo
Wicked...kind of spikes it up a bit!!
"Hold Me Now", Originally by Thompson Twins, Remade by Wayne Wonder
"Hold Me Now", Originally by Thompson Twins, Remade by Wayne Wonder
This is a very cute remake. Its on the 50 First Dates soundtrack.
"Holding Out For A Hero", Originally by Bonnie Tyler, Remade by Frou Frou
Great version of this song. In an electronic-dance-groovy Goldfrapp-like mood, Frou Frou makes a very god job. Both songs (original and cover) are excellent.
"Holiday", Originally by Madonna, Remade by MC Miker G & DJ Sven
This is an awsome rap version of this song. Like the original, it was also performed in the 80's.
"Holiday", Originally by Madonna, Remade by Who's That Girl
Who's That Girl made a DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) cover of this Madonna song. Both versions are great!
"The Holiday Song", Originally by Pixies, Remade by The Siren Six!
Found on the 'Where Is My Mind?' tribute album.
"Home ", Originally by Phill Collins, Remade by Bone Thugs N Harmony
This cover of "Take Me Home" was suprisingly good. Bone Thugs' soft style goes well with the Phil Collins chorus. Definitely worth a listen
"Hotel California", Originally by The Eagles, Remade by Kid With A Man Head
Fan-smegging-tastic punk cover A+++ very true to the original, except ina different style, it really freaked out my teachers when i was at school!
"Hounds Of Love", Originally by Kate Bush, Remade by The Futureheads
This is most likely one of the best cover-versions of the last 5 years. Raw and restless, with an intriguing arrangement and breathless vocals, it maintains the spirit of the original while breathing new live into it. Highly recommended.
"House of the Rising Sun", Originally by ??, Remade by Evereve
I love this song. You will too if you like the gothic powermetal style of Evereve.
"How Come You Don't Call Me", Originally by Prince, Remade by Alicia Keys
Prince is definitely a legend and is GREAT, but Alicia Keys put up a match in my opinion, she did an oustanding job with this cover. I like this version a little better than the original.
"How Come You Don't Call Me ", Originally by Prince , Remade by Stephanie Mills
"How Soon Is Now", Originally by The Smiths, Remade by Tatu
oh, just go to hell...do they even understand the words they are singing?
"How Soon Is Now?", Originally by The Smiths, Remade by The Meatmen
Kind of weird to hear this cover from a band that so obviously hates Morrissey.
"How Soon Is Now?", Originally by The Smiths, Remade by T.A.T.U.
Have not heard this 2002 version, but the girls in the band were barely born when the song first came out!
"How Soon Is Now?", Originally by The Smiths, Remade by Paradise Lost
This is a great cover. Again, its a b-side, but worth seeking out. It's a bit heavier, but no less good for that.
"How Will I Know?", Originally by Whitney Houston, Remade by Lemonheads
Acoustic Version from the CD-Single "If I could talk I'd tell you" (1996)
"Human Nature", Originally by Michael Jackson, Remade by Jason Nevins featuring Holly James
This is a great cover! The singer sounds a lot like Kristin Holt from American Idol (Season 1). Excellent song, although I gotta give props to MJ, the King of Pop, for his original version.
"Hungry Like A Wolf", Originally by Duran Duran, Remade by Reel Big Fish
definatly worth a listen too, better if not as good as the original
"Hungry Like The Wolf", Originally by Duran Duran, Remade by Reel Big Fish
Reel Big Fish can always make you laugh. They didn't fail on this one. The bebop breakdown in the middle is funny along with a nice explanation of the song at the beginning.
"Hungry Like The Wolf", Originally by Duran Duran, Remade by Stavesacre
Takes a song that i didn't care for and made it bearable :) not as good as their Fasination Streen cover but it is cool
"Hurt", Originally by Nine Inch Nails, Remade by Johnny Cash
This is the way the song was intended to be performed. Cash permits a deep, sorrow emotion that Trent Reznor just couldn't give. The video makes this remake 1000% times better.
"Hurt", Originally by Nine Inch Nails, Remade by Johnny Cash
Absolutely amazing. Heartbreaking rendition of a very dark song, recorded by Cash shortly before June's and his death. Video is stunning.
"Hurting Kind", Originally by Robert Plant, Remade by The Alleycats
Awsome site been looking for a cover site for ages I will need to send you this file its a great cover well worth a listen anyway
