Eighties Cover Songs, Songs Beginning with Y

Thanks to Warren Bakay for suggesting this page to me, I hadn't even realized until he mentioned it, the music industry is dredging up big hits from the last decade due to a not-so-surprising lack of imagination by the current stars. This should of course come to no suprise to most people, some big hits of the eighties were covers as well ("Mickey", "Der Kommisar", "You Keep Me Hanging On" (which was remade into a hit four times so far)). So far though, most covers have been pretty hideous. We only list songs that are originally from the eighties and are now being made into covers. We also only list a band if they're already well known or the group is making a lot of radio play with the remake.

Oh and to clear up a misconception a few people out there seem to be having about this page (and sending me very nasty letters). I have no problem with artists who do a cover of a song in concert, or because they are just starting out and don't have enough original material of their own for a full set of songs. As a matter of fact, cover bands can be great fun to go and see. All groups in modern history start out this way, I own a lot of The Beatles albums and they were the original cover group. A lot of early rock songs were covers of old R&B tunes. It's a fact of life.

"Yellow Submarine", Originally by The Beatles, Remade by ABBA
load of crap
"Yesterday", Originally by The Beatles, Remade by Martin L. Gore
The Depeche Mode Singer pretty much killed the song. It was one of those "goofing around" versions that you sometimes see in DM remixes and extras but without the fun. Yuck, Martin.
"Yesterday", Originally by The Beatles, Remade by Boyz II Men
I love the Beatles, but Boyz II Men did an outstanding job with this cover. It was great accapella and all! Beatles did a great job also, but I must admit, Boyz II Men showed them up BIG TIME!!
"You Give Love A Bad Name", Originally by Bon Jovi, Remade by Atreyu
When a renowned metalcore band covers an 80s metal song, that's just kickass.
"You Give Love a Bad Name", Originally by Bon Jovi, Remade by Atreyu
Very good scream rock cover...love it
"You Got It All", Originally by The Jets, Remade by Britney Spears
Britney, cut it out! You can't sing, and ripping off old songs isn't gonna make look any better, particularly in the eyes of those who, like myself, loved the original.
"You Got It All", Originally by The Jets, Remade by Britney Spears
I have to disagree with you on your impression of the singer's cover. I was born in the late 80's, but I find mysleef downlaoding and buying hundreds of 80's music - I love covers of them also. When I came across the acapella version of that song, I couldn't believe it was britney. It was an amazing cover, she sang beautifully, and for your clarification - britney is a very good singer. I loved the original, myself. But we need to give credit, where credit is due. You may not like her music, or her style, and she may not belt out those Whitney songs like XTina (not because she can't mind you), but the woman is still a great singer - and that Jets' cover is a clear indication of my claim. Look at her Star Search performance, her run on the Mickey Mouse Club, her earlier music... she may not show it now, but Britney can give Christina, Jessica and all the others a run for their money... I bet my life on that! Cool site though.
"You Keep Me Hanging On", Originally by The Supremes, Kim Wilde, Remade by Reba McEntire
It's OK, if you like country
"You Know You're Right", Originally by Nirvana, Remade by Seether
GREAT. AWESOME. BEAUTIFUL COVER. The voice is so alike... a good surprise.
"You Look Wonderful Tonight", Originally by Eric Clapton, Remade by Damage
both songs are good but i like the original better
"You Shook Me All Night Long", Originally by AC/DC, Remade by Celine Dion
Believe it. And we all thought she was such a sweet girl. She does this song with another singer and I can't remember her name. Taken by itself it isn't a bad song but it doesn't compare to AC/DC's version.
"You Spin Me Right Round", Originally by Dead or Alive, Remade by Dope
It's a good one
"You Spin Me Right Round", Originally by Dead or Alive, Remade by Marilyn Manson
Incredibly twisted, kinky outlook on this new version
"You Spin Me Right Round", Originally by Dead or Alive, Remade by Uranium 235
Great industrial-gothic-metal cover of this song.. It appears on their first album "Cultural Minority"
"You Spin Me Round", Originally by Dead Or Alive , Remade by Powerman 5000
originals are always better but this is harder so its still awesome
"You Spin Me Round", Originally by Dead Or Alive, Remade by Hate Dept.
Heavy metal band rocks this song. Live version, slighly changed lyrics. Explicit Content.
"You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)", Originally by Dead Or Alive, Remade by Jessica Simpson
Very good cover. she (Jessica) changed the lyrics some, but kept the chorus the same. it's different, but deff. in a good way.
"You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)", Originally by Dead or Alive, Remade by Orgy
Awesome
"You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)", Originally by Dead or Alive, Remade by Gigi D'Agostino
Wow! Totally beats the original version for me.
"You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)", Originally by Dead Or Alive, Remade by Dope
I thought it was awesome i really like the heavy metal rock cover thingy and it was really cool.
"You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)", Originally by Dead Or Alive, Remade by Thalia
It's actually not that bad however the original is better
"You Spin Me Round (like a record)", Originally by Dead or Alive, Remade by Dope
awesome rocked up version. I noticed your site said powerman 5000 did this which i believe is a mistake ;-)
"You Spin me Round", Originally by Dead of Alive, Remade by Dope
This is actually a Dope cover, not Powerman 5000 as someone stated before...still really great cover though
"You Think You're A Man", Originally by Divine, Remade by Full Frontal
This is the cover that appeared on the "Queer as Folk" soundtrack.
"You Think You're A Man", Originally by Divine, Remade by Massive Ego
"You spin me round (like a record)", Originally by Dead or Alive, Remade by Dope
it was really good, i actually perfer the dope version, but dead or alive's was a classic.
"You spin me round (like a record)", Originally by Dead or Alive, Remade by Powerman 5000
i think its better than the original its hell out there and altogether a good remake go powerman 5000!!!!
"You're So Vain", Originally by Carly Simon, Remade by Faster Pussycat
Can't stand the original, but love it done by Faster Pussycat.
"You're So Vain", Originally by Carly Simon, Remade by Chocolate Star Fish
this song is good, way up beat, the guys voice was made for it. if u get the chance to hear it, do it you wont be dissapointed, this is actually my fave cover
"You're So Vain", Originally by Carly Simon, Remade by Janet Jackson
On Janet Jackson's 2001 CD All For You, it's called Son of a Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is About You).
"You're The Inspiration", Originally by Chicago, Remade by Don Henley
How could Mr. Henley make a cover like that?
"You're The Inspiration", Originally by Chicago, Remade by R. Kelly
The cover is OK, but I like the one by Chicago. But that's not a real cover, though.
"You're The Voice", Originally by Heart, Remade by Rebecca St. James
I personally like Rebecca's version alot better.
"You've Lost That Loving Feeling", Originally by The Righteous Brothers, Remade by Hall & Oates
The H & O version is vtually a carbon copy of the original.
"Young Americans", Originally by David Bowie, Remade by Cure
Excellent cover, smooths out some of the kinks with layering and lends a different flavor to the song
"Young Turks", Originally by Rod Stewart, Remade by Jugheads Revenge
never knew I liked rod
"Your Lost Little Girl", Originally by The Doors, Remade by Siouxsie And The Banshees
I like siouxsie and the banshees so I'm biased on this one.
"Your Love", Originally by The Outfield, Remade by Less Than Jake
the original is impossible to compare with, but it is definately worth checking out. It is a little more fast paced.
"Your Love", Originally by The Outfield, Remade by Midtown
Off Punk Goes 80's CD....amazing cover, truly one of the best I've found and I'm really really picky about covers.
"Your Love", Originally by The Outfield, Remade by The Butchies
The Butchies version is great!
"Your Silent Face", Originally by New Order, Remade by Resonate
Very good cover, stays true to the original at times, strays at times. Very enjoyable.
